Another county may be delaying the start of the Fall semester because of health concerns.
Tampa General Hospital, USF Health and Hillsborough County Public Schools are working together to review all plans to reopen for the Fall semester. Due to Covid-19, the school system is in collaboration with health authorities. Today, Hillsborough County Schools Superintendent Addison Davis tweeted his recommendation.
Based on ongoing medical consultations, I will be recommending to the School Board that we delay the start of the 2020-2021 school year for students by two weeks, until August 24th. I understand that this recommendation will need to be reviewed, discussed, and approved by the School Board along with collaboration with the HCTA.
The Hillsborough County School Board will discuss this Thursday at the Board workshop at 1 p.m. If the School Board approves the change, they will join Polk, Manatee and Sarasota counties in delaying the start date.
