11AM UPDATE: The Pasco Sheriff’s Office posted a short time ago that Michael is now safe and that the suspect is in custody. A video posted to Facebook announced that Michael will be reunited with his family soon. Savopoulos now faces charges of aggravated battery and kidnapping, with more possibly to follow. They thanked the public for numerous tips that helped detectives.
Original story from this morning:
Chances are you woke up to an alert on your cell phone this morning. The search is on for a missing 9 year old boy in Pasco County. The details of the Amber Alert are few, but scary. Little Michael Morris was last seen in Holiday wearing a black t-shirt and white shorts.
According to this video just released by the Pasco County Sheriff’s Office, at 4:40am, they got a call of a battered woman in the streets. She was taken to the hospital and they think she has brain injuries. The man who is alleged to have battered her said the “child will pay for what the mother did.”
The suspect is Haralampos Savopoulos. Savopoulos is from Holiday. He is white, 5 feet 9 inches tall, and weighs about 180 pounds. Keep an eye out for a 2011 Nissan Versa with Florida license plate PCW H01. A search this guy turns up an arrest from back in April. He was charged in Pinellas County of battery on a person 65 years or older, false imprisonment, and tampering with a witness. He was bonded out just six hours later. [Arrest report]
