The state set another daily record with coronavirus-related deaths today (July 29, 2020), but the storm heading our way poses another risk for the Florida Division of Emergency Management. This past hour they announced all state-supported testing sites for COVID-19 will be closed starting Friday. They plan to reopen testing sites next week once the storm has passed. Some will open Tuesday, but they say all will be back up and running by Wednesday.
They ask those who have symptoms to try to get tested at a drive-thru site before the closures. Their tests will get priority and results are promised within 72 hours.
St. Pete Mayor Rick Kriseman tweeted this morning that the weather will not force the closure of the testing site at the Pinellas Community Church in St. Petersburg on 31st Street. It’s open 9am to 5pm through Saturday. Appointments can be made by calling 833-NYS4FLA.
Forecasters still don’t know how much of an impact the storm will actually have on Florida this weekend.
