A restaurant and popular music venue, the mainstay in the north Tampa area is changing to a special events facility before it ultimately finds a new owner.

Skipper's Smokehouse, which opened in 1980, has become a favorite and award-winning music venue. Its food was featured on an episode of "Man vs Food" on the Travel Channel. Following the final show on Sunday, September 27, the "Skipperdome" will close as the Tampa Bay icon it has become. It will turn into an outdoor event facility. The owners say it was the coronavirus pandemic that ultimately hurt business enough that it was time to bring it to an end. They will look for a new owner.

This is the statement that was posted to Facebook.

Skipper's Smokehouse just celebrated their 40th anniversary.

Hockey fans, here are some great memories of 2004

Some photos of even the Stanley Cup winning team at the "St. Pete Times Forum". This year may be as memorable, but we'll have watched the 2020 playoffs as the Lightning's 'Distant Thunder'.
