Tampa Officials Tell Residents To Boil Water

The city of Tampa is suggesting boiling water. What caused this issue with the utility?

A company doing work Monday hit a water main from the David L. Tippin Water Treatment Facility. The main break has caused Tampa officials to suggest residents boil water, as a precautionary measure, until further notice.

Residents may also notice lower water pressure. When this happens, there's the possibility of bacteria or other problems entering the water. A rolling boil for one minute, followed by pouring water between containers (Carefully! Do not burn yourself) and then refrigerating the water, is the best way to clean the water.

Other methods include using using bleach, 1/8th of a teaspoon per gallon, mixed thoroughly, and then left for at least 30 minutes before consuming.
