There's more than one way to run a supermarket, and Publix is betting this new store will work.
Publix opened a new store in Gandy Commons, 4315 W. Gandy Blvd., but it's a bit different from the traditional Publix stores we've come to know and love. This new prototype adds features we haven't seen before in their stores.
The new store has a deli island in the middle of the store. It also has a cooking school kiosk in the center as well. There are prepared hot and cold foods for people who just want to pick up something to eat. If they wish to eat it in the store, there's an upstairs dining area. With the store's WiFi, it's a place to relax, dine and maybe get some work done.
Along with GreenWise products, this new Publix has all the departments you'd expect in their locations, though smaller. The store has an area set up for online orders and grocery pickup spots in the parking lot.
According to their corporate website, Publix has 1,262 stores in the southeastern United States. Founded in 1930, Publix is now the largest employee-owned company in the country and employs over 225,000.
