Looks like Smokey Robinson might need to brush up on his pronunciations of holidays.
Jeff Jacobson gifted his mother a cameo from legendary singer Smokey Robinson for Hanukkah. A cameo is a video you can purchase from a celebrity with a personalized message for a fee. Smokey Robinson’s fee is $399.
Jacobson didn’t quite get what he paid for. Especially since Smokey Robinson totally butchered the traditional pronunciation for Hanukkah, “Chanukah” phonetically as Cha-Noo-Kah. Now this video is going viral.
Don’t worry. Jacobson and his mother got a laugh too.
By the way, @smokeyrobinson can pronounce it any way he damn well pleases. He is a true legend whose music has been with me since birth. His kindness and generosity of spirit has already made this most-unusual 2020 Chanukah one of my family’s most memorable. Also, my mom says hi.— Jeff Jacobson (@jeffjacobson) December 14, 2020
