Florida Democrat & Republican Working Together To Legalize Recreational Marijuana

Given the deep division in the country over the presidential election, it’s nice to see some politicians from opposite sides of the aisle can get along and work together. What is unifying Democrat Carlos Smith and Republican Jeff Brandes? Pot.

Fox 13 reports the two have filed bill HB343/SB 710 to legalize recreational marijuana use in Florida. They say their compromises should give the bill a chance with both parties… and their constituents. They plan to introduce the bill when lawmakers get back to work. Recreational marijuana is already legal in 15 states. Smith says there are 4 reasons he thinks this might pass when it’s previously stalled. [Source: Fox 13]

  Public use will be prohibited. Just like alcohol, they say responsibility is key. And that means prohibition of public use.

• Small business opportunity…

  Small businesses could get involved. Instead of being required to oversee the whole process, small businesses could just import the marijuana from licensed growers.

• Age requirement…

  Also just like alcohol, you'd have to be at least 21 years old. You'll get ID'd just as you would if you were buying a beer.
• Home grown debate…

  A study on home grown marijuana is being looked into instead of allowing it right away. This is a compromise Smith said he's made to get the bill in motion.

  Miami's show will be on June 18. The next night the tour comes to Orlando. Then the tour moves north but comes back to Florida for a show in Jacksonville on July 2. Unfortunately still no word of any Tampa dates for the tour.

  If you've been to a Buffett show, you know the real show isn't on stage, it's in the crowd. This will be the 3rd attempt at making this concert happened. Jimmy had shoulder surgery that postponed the concert in 2019. Then our friend COVID-19 meant a postponement of the rescheduled 2020 concert at Amalie Arena in Tampa.

  If you missed them in Tampa, you have one more chance to see the Rolling Stones when the Hackney Diamonds '24 tour comes to Camping World Stadium in Orlando. And if you miss this show, you'll have to catch them on one of their future tours over the next few decades... because even though the show is sponsored by AARP, the Stones show no signs of slowing down.

  The concert was originally set for March 26. Cher hoped to reschedule, but given the uncertainty of how long we'll be dealing with coronavirus, she has decided to cancel the show so fans can get refunds.
