FHP: Driver thrown into Tampa Bay after multi-vehicle crash on Howard Frankland Bridge

A driver was thrown over the wall into the Tampa Bay after a crash Monday night.

It’s been a mess tonight on the Howard Frankland Bridge as commuters try to get to the Pinellas side from Tampa. Southbound lanes were closed as crews and investigators are worked the scene where a driver was sent over the bridge wall into Tampa Bay, according to Bay News 9.

They say a Nissan Frontier with a trailer was parked in a southbound lane near the hump. The driver got out of the vehicle. A Toyota Corolla tried to avoid hitting the Frontier’s trailer but ended up slamming into it. The force knocked the driver over the wall. Then they say the Corolla was hit by a Jeep.

The good news is the driver that was sent over the bridge and into the water was rescued and rushed to the hospital. [Source: Bay News 9]
