Ji-Man Choi #26 of the Tampa Bay Rays celebrates a two run home run against the New York Yankees with teammate Willy Adames #1 during the fourth inning in Game One of the American League Division Series at PETCO Park on October 05, 2020 in San Diego, California.

Not the news we want to hear with opening day coming up Thursday. It was just announced that Tampa Bay Rays first baseman Ji-Man Choi needs to have surgery. He’ll miss the first few weeks of the season.  Choi’s had little on field time the past few weeks because of the pain in the knee.  The Tampa Bay Times reports it’s arthroscopic surgery on his right knee that’ll keep him out of action until at least May. Once they finish the surgery Wednesday, they’ll have a more accurate idea of when Choi could be back.

The Rays will start the season in Miami against the Marlins Thursday. Game time is 4:10pm. They’ll play their first home game at Tropicana Field on April 9th against the Yankees. [Source: TBT]
