Long-Time Tampa BBQ Restaurant Closing
It’s been the place to go for barbecue for decades in South Tampa. Now they’re closing down and selling the property.
Kojak’s House of Ribs has been a Tampa mainstay since 1978. The name of the restaurant came from the original owner, Bill Forney. Forney was a midwest chief of detectives, so the nickname ‘Kojak’, as in the TV show, stuck.
The building was built nearly a century ago. Now, word has come out that they will be closing the business and the old building will also be demolished. The structure will be replaced by apartments. However, the owner’s plan is to reopen in a new location.
I've said this before and I'll say it again: If you are EVER in Tampa (or live there and have never been), you have GOT to go to Kojak's House of Ribs in South Tampa.

This place was a North Florida ICON for years before it sadly caught fire and burned down.
