A family woke up to someone knocking. They didn’t let it in.

When you hear something knocking late at night, you never know what you may find. This happened at a house that is near a retention pond on June 1. An alligator wandered onto the back porch and was ‘knocking’ at the sliding glass door. The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Department was contacted and a Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission trapper was sent out. Nobody was injured, and the visitor was caught and relocated.

It’s alligator mating season, so they may be much more active this time of year. This family was probably lucky that the alligator did not find its way into the house. That has happened, and it cost the owner quite a bit in repairs, and the insurance company denied the claim.

The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office tweeted a picture of the visitor. Much bigger than the lizards we usually find on our porches.
