As travel nationwide continues to grow, we’re just a week away from a big holiday weekend.
AAA forecasts for the July 4th weekend are that the total volume will be among the highest on record. The prediction is that 47.7 million Americans will be traveling for Independence Day. That marks a number only exceeded by the 2019 July 4th weekend.
Despite gas prices at their highest prices since 2014, most travelers are hitting the roads. In Florida, gas prices are averaging $2.94 per gallon.

Tips from AAA for travel during holidays:
- Expect long delays, particularly Thursday from 3-5pm, Friday 4-5pm, Saturday 11am-1pm and Monday from 4pm-5pm. The best times on those days to travel are: Thursday after 7pm, Friday before 12pm, Saturday after 2pm and Monday before 1pm.
- Also, Prepare for higher prices for hotel rates.
- Masks are still required on forms of public transportation (planes, buses, trains…) regardless of vaccination status.
- Be sure you make sure your vehicle is ready for travel.
- Bring snacks
