Travel website TripAdvisor is out with their list of the best brunches in America and one is right here in Tampa. It’s a place I still have yet to visit. I’ve been meaning to go for years, but now I really have to make it a priority. Being the #GenoAteTampa guy, I usually opt for places that aren’t so fancy and pretty. Fat guy food is my thing and this place has always seemed a little too high brow for me. A visit though will happen sometime.
Oxford Exchange near the University of Tampa on West Kennedy came in at #9 in the United States in this year’s survey. With about 1,000 reviews from TripAdvisor visitors, Oxford Exchange has a 4-1/2 star ranking based on its food and atmosphere, although for restaurants overall, it ranks at #26 in the Tampa area. But they were the only Florida restaurant to make the Top 10 Brunch in the U.S. list.
Originally built in 1891, the restaurant you see now was originally a stable. That’s why you see horseshoes and milk bottles as are part of the decor. In the 1920s the space evolved as businesses began to move in to the neighborhood. Oxford Exchanged opened in 2012.
A popular spot for afternoon tea weekdays, their popular brunch is served on Saturday and Sunday from 9am to 5pm. Food options for brunch include cinnamon rolls, grits, poppy seed pancakes, smoked salmon, fried brussels sprouts, salads, a fried chicken sandwich with garlic aioli, truffle mac and cheese and of course… a Cuban sandwich.
