Report: Tampa Bay Lightning Anthem Singer “Fighting For Her Life”
UPDATE:
Original article from July 22:
Last night, Channel 8 reported that Sonya is hospitalized due to complications with COVID-19. Sonya Bryson-Kirksey was vaccinated months ago. And now as she’s “fighting for her life,” according to Melanie Michael, Sonya is urging those who haven’t rolled up their sleeve yet to please do so. It could mean the difference between life and death for her.
I hate passing along this news. I knew Tampa Bay Lightning national anthem singer Sonya Bryson-Kirksey was in the hospital. We exchanged a quick private message on Twitter last week when I invited her to come on the show last week after rapper Biz Markie died. She expressed her love and support for Biz and when she had to decline participating in an on-air tribute, I honestly didn’t think much of it. Sonya has been battling MS for years. My assumption was the hospital visit was related to that. In a chat we had a year or so ago, Sonya shared that doctor visits were part of her routine.
WWE wrestler Titus O’Neil and other fans of Sonya are rallying behind her. We were fortunate to see her perform during the final round as the Lightning won the Stanley Cup. She’d hoped to sing the national anthem at the post-boat parade rally, but Mother Nature unfortunately scrapped those plans. But I’m sure she had a blast at the boat parade. We love you Sonya and are praying for you. We need to hear that voice when the Stanley Cup banner is raised at Amalie Arena in October!
