The Lightning's head coach has been selected to coach another team in 2022.

Jon Cooper took over as head coach in Tampa in March of 2013 and has become the longest tenured head coach in the NHL. He's taken the Lightning to three Stanley Cup Finals and won two of them. Now he's been called upon to coach another team. Don't worry-he's not leaving the Lightning.

Coach Cooper has been selected lead Team Canada's hockey team in the 2022 Winter Olympic Games in Beijing, China. Cooper is Canadian, having been born in Prince George, British Columbia. Before becoming an NHL coach, Cooper earned his bachelors' degree in business administration from Hofstra University. He then went to the Thomas M. Cooley Law School in Lansing, Michigan, where he earned his law degree. He gave up his law practice to become a hockey coach.

Now, the NHL and NHL Players Association hasn't come to an agreement with the International Ice Hockey Federation to participate in the 2022 Winter Olympic Games, yet. The NHL schedule for the 2021-2022 season does leave a window in February for players to represent their countries in the Olympics if an agreement is reached.
