St. Petersburg Street Dining Plan Ending Soon
If you’ve visited downtown St. Petersburg restaurants, you’ve seen outdoor seating that takes up some parking spots on the road.
The plan was to help the restaurants of St. Petersburg by increasing the amount of usable space in front of each store. The parking in front of businesses was temporarily barricaded to give space for additional tables outside.
Outdoor dining became a very popular response during the pandemic. It became a way to help save many businesses. It was so successful that the plan was extended to benefit those businesses.
In a statement from the city of St. Petersburg, it was explained that ending of the temporary permit that would return the parking spaces to traffic use. The permit is set to expire in October. The statement did say there would be continued research on how the program worked, and if a permanent program could be enacted. Use of sidewalks adjacent to businesses will continue to be allowed.
