Teen Driver Runs Head On Into Tampa Police Cruiser
An off-duty office was alerted at to a vehicle that had hit several cars in a parking lot. She then went looking for the hit-and-run suspect.
At 2:30 a.m., the officer continued following directions from people who were pointing out where the vehicle, a dark pickup, was seen driving. She turned north off of Fowler into USF, where she saw a vehicle headed her way.
She stopped and turned on the vehicle’s emergency lights. The pickup continued straight toward the police vehicle, driving the wrong direction in her lane. He continued and ran straight into the police SUV.
Investigating officers suspect the driver, a 17-year-old, was driving under the influence. Charges are also pending for the vehicles he hit earlier in a parking lot. The Tampa Police officer suffered minor injuries but was checked out and released from Tampa General Hospital. The suspect was not injured in the collision.
