Video: Tampa Bay Rays’ Randy Arozarena Makes MLB History
Randy Arozarena showed in the 2020 playoffs that he was a special player. In his first post-season game of 2021, he stepped things up.
It wasn’t enough that Arozarena can spray the ball around the field. He also has home run power. In the 5th inning Thursday night in game one of the American League Divisional Series against the Boston Red Sox, Arozarena impressed the announcers with this shot into the left field stands.
But Arozarena wasn’t done. This wasn’t impressive enough. Later, in the 7th inning, he moved to third base as Wander Franco doubles. The defense wasn’t doing anything to keep Arozarena near 3rd, and even the announcers knew it. Nobody had ever hit a home run and stolen home in a single playoff game in well over a century of MLB baseball.
The last straight steal of home, according to USA Today, came in 1955. Jackie Robinson stole home in Game 1 for the Brooklyn Dodgers against the New York Yankees.
