The one most notable change: no animals.
The Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus ended its nearly 100 years of touring in 2017. There had been declining attendance for about 10 years. Much of this had been due to animal rights organizations protesting the treatment of animals by the circus. Now, Feld Entertainment, the parent company of this circus, is discussing a comeback.
The return to performing would have no animals. Feld Entertainment told Fox 13 News that there should be an announcement coming in 2022. They'd then announce when the circus would return, possibly in 2023.
The history of Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Circus features the merge of shows, which culminated with the Ringling brothers' show buying out Barnum and Bailey's Circus in 1907. Feld Entertainment took over the circus in 1967. They opened the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Clown College in 1968 in Venice, Florida, before it finally settled in Sarasota.
Here's what Nik Wallenda had to say about plans to bring back the circus.
