Electric scooters have now taken over both land and sea.
67 electric scooters were retrieved from the Hillsborough Bay along Tampa Riverwalk on Monday, according to WTSP.
A team of volunteer divers with Keep Tampa Bay Beautiful retrieved the scooters in an effort to remove debris from the bay. At first, volunteers weren't aware of how many scooters were sitting at the bottom of the bay. After hours of scouting, many scooters were found. Some scooters were even covered in barnacles, according to reports.
Normally, scooter companies are responsible for the retrieval of their scooters. However, Keep Tampa Bay Beautiful came to the rescue to fish out the scooters.
Not only were over these scooters were taken out of the bay, but so was a bike, a street sign, and a canoe. Volunteers believe there could be more scooters in the water.
The scooter companies picked up their water damaged vehicles to be properly recycled after they were retrieved from the river.
