Tampa Woman Gets $1.75 Million For Lost Leg at Salon
A trip to the salon to get a pedicure in Tampa back in 2018 ended with a customer having to get an amputation. The Tampa Bay Times says 55 year old Clara Shellman stopped in to Tammy’s Nails on Hillsborough Avenue shop and got a cut on her foot. Not a big deal right? She had peripheral arterial disease. The cut got infected and it got so bad so fast, that Shellman actually ended up having to get her LEG amputated.
In the court case, documents say the salon used dirty equipment and didn’t train employees on maintenance to keep tools safe. Tammy’s Nails claimed the equipment wasn’t dirty and that things got so bad because Shellman didn’t get treatment until it was too late. They also say she failed to do anything to prevent the infection from spreading.
Shellman’s attorney told the Times the settlement reached was $1.75 million to compensate for medical costs and other assorted losses. They say she can no longer care for herself and lives with family members. [Source: Tampa Bay Times]
