A heads up if you're planning to drive over the Skyway this weekend. The Skyway 10K race will force you to make alternate plans if you're heading northbound Sunday morning.
The northbound lanes of the Sunshine Skyway Bridge will close at about 3:30AM so crews can prepare the course for runners. St. Petersburg police say they plan to have the bridge reopened by 11AM. Southbound lanes will remain open. But if you're coming up to the Tampa area from the Bradenton/Sarasota area, you'll definitely want to stay on 75 North Sunday morning.
This will be the fifth running of the 6.2 mile race. It's a fundraiser for the Armed Forces Families Foundation. Almost $2 million has been raised so far for military families, according to the race website. Runners pay $80 each to compete and 100% of registration fees benefit the charity.
