In order to replace a water main that has been trouble for years, the City of Tampa is closing a segment of South West Shore Blvd. The project began in June of 2021. The road closure begins Sunday, March 6, at or about 7 p.m.
The closure of northbound West Shore Blvd. extends from Kennedy Blvd. to Azeele St. The closure will continue until Friday, March 11 at or about 9 p.m.
The northbound lanes will be open for "Local Traffic Only" from Azeele St. to Cleveland St. A portion from Cleveland St. to Kennedy Blvd. will be closed completely.
The detour will be set up with barricades and signs to direct northbound cars east to Lois Ave., North on Lois Ave. to Kennedy Blvd., then west back to West Shore Blvd. If you need to take this route, expect delays. Sidewalks will remain open with safety fencing separating the sidewalks and work zones.
Brad Baird, Deputy Administrator of Infrastructure with the City of Tampa said:
"The reason we need to do a complete closure of Northbound West Shore Blvd. between Kennedy Blvd. and Azeele St. is because we need to keep our crews safe. Fully closing northbound West Shore Boulevard also enables us to expedite the work and reopen the road much faster than other construction alternatives.”
