Police: Man from The Villages Tries to Pry Taser from Officer’s Hand
A man from The Villages was arrested after he tried to pray a taser from an officer, police say.
Reports say 31-year-old Aaron Jonathan Gonnelli was seen at a dentist’s office in Lady Lake at around 8 p.m. on Monday. A police officer arrived to the location, and apparently told Gonnelli he was trespassing. An arrest report says Gonnelli appeared to be jittery and sweaty, even though it was only 50 degrees outside.
Police say Gonnelli started to walk away from the officer, so she tried to shoot her taser at him. Apparently she hit his jacket instead. She then deployed her “drive-stun” taser, which hit him in the calf.
The officer said she then tried to stun him again, however Gonnelli retaliated. He allegedly grabbed her wrist, and attempted to take the taser away.
Reports say Gonnelli was arrested after he tried to run off. The arrest report says he was booked in the Sumter County Jail and charged with drug possession, resisting arrest, and battery.
