Forbes releases an annual list of the world's billionaires. There are seven living in the Tampa Bay area. Here's who they are and how they made their fortune.
Ronald Wanek: Ronald founded and is chairman of Ashley Furniture. Forbes lists him as having $5.5 billion, half-a-billion less than in 2021. He's 80 years old and resides in St. Petersburg.
Todd Wanek: Son of Ronald Wanek, is the CEO of Ashley Furniture. Ashley Furniture is listed by Forbes as the largest furniture manufacturer and retailer in America. Todd is listed at $3.4 billion in 2022. The 58-year-old lives in St. Petersburg.
Todd Christopher: With $3 billion, according to Forbes, Todd Christopher founded Vogue International, a hair care products company. The 59-year-old lives in Clearwater.
Eddie DeBartolo, Jr.: Possibly the highest-profile billionaire in the Tampa Bay area. With a fortune listed by Forbes at $2.7 billion, Debartolo owned the San Francisco 49ers in the 1980's and 1990's. He currently operates a Florida-based real estate development and investment firm. At 75-years-old, DeBartolo resides in Tampa.
Kenneth Feld: Feld's $2.3 billion was mainly built on Feld Entertainment, a live entertainment company that includes 'Disney On Ice' and 'Monster Jam'. The 73-year-old makes his home in Sarasota.
Thomas James: 79-year-old Thomas is the son of Raymond James founder Robert James. Thomas was the chairman of Raymond James, where he was for 40 years. The Harvard graduate lives in St. Petersburg,
Robert Duggan: Duggan is listed at $2 billion. The entrepreneur built his fortune in pharmaceuticals. He began investing in cancer fighting drugs in 2004. He lost his son to brain cancer. The 77-year-old lives in Clearwater.
Topping the list this year was Elon Musk, who was listed at $219 billion.
