Eight-Year-Old St. Pete Native Raises Nearly $70,000 For Cancer Research

Since 2017, St. Petersburg sisters Caroline and Charlotte Gallagher have raised nearly $70,000 for pediatric cancer research by selling lemonade outside of their home once a year. The pair will be selling lemonade from their home in St. Pete on June 4 from 10:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m..

A tradition the family has kept up for the past six years. According to ABC Action News, last year they raised $11,000 and the year before a whooping $20,000 was raised. 100% of all donations go to Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital and Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation. The sisters coincide the event with Lemonade Days, a national movement inspired by Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation. Alex was a 8-year-old from Connecticut who raised $1 million selling lemonade before losing her battle to cancer in 2004.

Caroline was diagnosed with leukemia at 18-months old. She is now in remission and healthy. Caroline said she appreciates the donations and wants to help children in the hospital.

It's clear that the Gallagher family advocates for additional funding for research for childhood cancer, not just in September (childhood cancer awareness month), but year round. More information about their lemonade stand can be found here.

The event this year will be drive-through/distanced and live streamed so all can join the fun in person or donate online.

The Gallagher family said there are several ways to donate this year. Lane's Lemonade in Dunedin (349 Main Street) is donating a portion of its sales on June 4 to pediatric cancer. There will also be a pop-up lemonade stand at the Tampa Bay Rowdies game at Al Lang Stadium in St. Pete on June 4 at 7:30 p.m.
