Well, here we are. Just 3 days into hurricane season and we already have a disturbance in the tropics we are keeping a close eye on.
The city of Tampa announced today that they will have three locations set-up for residents to pick up sandbags in anticipation for the severe weather we are expecting this weekend. Many forecasters are expecting mostly a rain event, but with heavy rain can come flooding in many low lying areas.
2 PM Update... Aircraft recon data shows that the disturbance has changed very little over the last several hours. Continue to expect the highest chances for rain associated with this system to be south of I-4 through Saturday midday. pic.twitter.com/pPKyTOR6HB

The three locations are:
- Himes Ave Complex – 4501 South Himes Avenue.
- MacFarlane Park – 1700 North MacDill Avenue
- Al Barnes Park South – 2902 north 32nd Street
You will need to show an ID verifying residence within the city limits, this includes a driver’s license, utility bill or electric bill. Each person is limited to 10 sandbags and there will be staff on site to lend help to those who may need assistance.
Free sandbags are available this weekend (June 3-5) at three @tampaparksrec locations.
