We're all aware of shipping and production delays ever since the pandemic began, pre-COVID turnaround times for new passports was about 7 weeks, it is now recommended by the U.S. State Department to order a new or updated passport 11 weeks before of your travel date.
If you already have a undamaged passport that was issued to you at 16 years old or older and within the last 15 years, then you can complete the renewal process via mail. Be sure to include any documentations of any name change if applicable. If these conditions do not apply to you, then you will have to apply in person. Even if it still has a few months validity left, it is recommended by the U.S. Department of State that you renew your passport well ahead of any travel plans. If your travel date is in five to seven weeks, you can pay $60 (in addition to the standard application fee) and purchase USPS Priority Mail Express for faster turnaround and shipping.
Don't be fooled by third party expedited passport services, as these normally come with a ridiculous fee, but there is also no guarantee that you will receive your passport any faster than applying in person at an agency.
