A man wasn't able to figure out that what he thought was a dog was actually a 7-foot long alligator.

The 47-year-old was outside Warm Mineral Springs Motel in Sarasota County near North Port. He was walking around the motel on Tamiami Trail when he saw something moving in the bushes. He told responders that it looked like a dog on a long leash.

The alligator then bit him on his right leg. The man suffered serious injuries to his leg or ankle. He managed to flag down a Sarasota deputy who contacted EMS. The alligator bit victim was taken to Sarasota Memorial Hospital.

A Sarasota County Sheriff's Office sergeant captured the gator. A trapper then was able to remove the 7" 1" reptile. Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission is investigating.

If you're looking for something to do that's a little different, check this list out. These are not the familiar and popular places to visit. Instead, here are a few lesser-known attractions around Tampa Bay.

Summer is here and schools are out. If you're looking to visit someplace you haven't been yet, here are some places around the Tampa Bay area that you may not have though about before.

1 Whimzeyland, Safety Harbor

Owned by a couple of artists, this Safety Harbor home has nearly everything covered with tile mosaics. Then there are the bowling balls, painted and decorating the property.

2. Dysfuntional Grace Art Co., Ybor City

Filled with natural and unnatural oddities, many you can actually purchase.

3. 3. Sunken Gardens, St. Petersburg

Sunken Gardens has been open for over 100 years, and is St. Pete's oldest roadside attraction. Get a visitors guide and explore the more than 50,000 tropical plants and flowers. Take lots of photos of the waterfalls and their flock of flamingos,

4. Chihuly Collection, St. Petersburg

Glass art brought to its highest peak. Add to that, the drawings and limited edition prints. You can also purchase your new home decorations.

5. International Independent Showmen's Museum, Riverview

Learn the history, and mystery, of the traveling carnival.

6. Church by the Sea (The Chicken Church), Madeira Beach

Whether the design is intentional or an unfortunate result, the building is certainly memorable.

7. The Sea Hagg, Bradenton

As their sign reads, "Nauticals, Antiques, Curiosities." It's someplace you need to visit to find that special, one-of-a-kind treasure.

8. Ulele Fairyland Figures, Tampa

Originally on display at Lowry Park, the figures were acquired by Ulele (and Columbia Restaurant owner) Richard Gonzmart, who put them on display at his restaurant on the Hillsborough River.

9. Braden Castle Ruins, Bradenton

On land acquired by brothers Dr. Joseph Addison Braden and Hector Braden, a two-story manor, nicknamed 'The Castle' was built. The property fell to hard times, and much of the remaining structure has been grown over by the natural flora.

10. National Comedy Hall of Fame & Museum, Holiday

Get some laughs, and learn about some of your favorite comedians. Clearly, noplace screams "National Comedy Hall of Fame & Museum" like the town of Holiday, Florida!

Station House BBQ is just down the road from home, so it's natural that I'm going to have some favorites! Here's what I choose from when I have that BBQ craving.

The restaurant is on Florida Avenue in Lutz. Opened by Anthony and Allison Fonseca, it's quickly become one of the most loved bbq restaurants in the area. Anthony, a firefighter and Allison, a teacher, joined up with Joshua Paul and turned their side-business into a success. They also give back to their community, especially for first responders.

They were also featured on Good Morning America. That's some nice national exposure, but we have them all to ourselves in the Tampa area!

Now, back to the food. Here are my five favorite items from Station House BBQ:

The Smoked Gouda Mac & Cheese

The Classic Pork Sandwich

The Station 40

This is a tasty combination of flavors. The Station 40 is made up of pulled pork and chopped brisket... then, add the "Not Yo' Mama's slaw," smoked gouda cheese sauce, bacon, jam and their special Station 40 sauce and served on a toasted kaiser bun.

Rack of Ribs

There's no going wrong with another bbq standard: a rack of ribs!

Okay, time for dessert... Peach Cobbler!

Said it earlier... BBQ Ribs!

There just can't be enough ribs!

There are still a few other items on the menu that can't be forgotten

-Loaded Tots
-If you like sausage, the 'Hog Tower'
-If you like spicy foods, the 'Tampa Hot' chicken sandwich

It's always tough for me to decide!
