The Humane Society of Tampa Bay Needs Your Help
This year, The Humane Society of Tampa Bay has seen a significant increase of owners surrendering their furry loved ones because of financial insecurity. With inflation raising the cost of living, it’s difficult for a lot of people to live comfortably these days and care for not only themselves but their pets.
According to WFLA, the Director of Shelter Operations, Danyelle Ho, saw an average of around 425 surrenders a month for the first five months of 2022. In 2021, the average was 412 a month. While the increase doesn’t seem that significant, the financial reason causing the surrenders are staggering.
The Humane Society is asking pet owners to consider “Pet Rehoming” before dropping them off at the shelter. The organization wrote on a Facebook post ” If you want a say in what family gets your fur-baby next, consider ‘Pet Rehoming.’”
If you’re experiencing financial hardships with your furry friend, remember that the Humane Society of Tampa Bay has free food and supplies for pets through its Pet Pantry and “Animeals” program, free annual vaccine clinics, and affordable veterinary care. If you still find the need to rehome your pet, consider finding a foster parent or using any of these rehoming services instead of surrendering them to a shelter:
