Florida Man Lost In Weeki Wachee Rescued By Drone
A Florida man lost in Weeki Wachee Preserve called for help Friday morning. Hernando County sheriff’s deputies brought out the latest technology.
Deputies from the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office received the call around 10:30 a.m. Friday morning from a man who had been hiking since 6:30 a.m. He had become disoriented and could not find his way out of the woods. The 36-year-old told operators he had no food or water.
Deputy Harsanyi flew the drone near where the hiker was believed to be. As the hiker continued to talk to the operator, he was able to hear the drone nearby. The drone has a speaker with which announcements can be made while deputies were able to guide him.
When deputies were able to locate the caller, he was about a half-mile deep into the woods. They guided him out and he chose to refuse medical treatment.
