A big drug investigation out of our Bay area has resulted in millions of dollars of illegal drugs being confiscated.
Our friends at 10 Tampa Bay covered the story. You can find out more here.
Sheriff Grady Judd held a press conference on Friday and described what he said was “the single largest seizure of drugs and arrests made in the history of Polk County during an undercover wiretap investigation.”
He said the investigation started almost two years ago. Detectives uncovered a drug trafficking ring from Mexico to California to Florida.
“We’re dealing with an international smuggling ring that operated out of Winter Haven, Florida,” Judd said. The criminals were transporting drugs in their checked bags on flights from LA to Tampa.
“They didn’t so much as throw a pair of underwear in the suitcase to act like they were hiding the drugs,” Judd said.
The confiscated drugs had a total street value of 12.8 million dollars.
“I am sick and tired of this national media and these national groups telling us that drugs are low-level and non-violent,” said Judd. “I’m so very proud of our detectives and the agents and law enforcement officers who partnered with us to get these dangerous drugs and felons off the street.”
We love how the Sherrif is so clear and straightforward in his communication.
