Rainfall In St. Pete Leaves Some Residents Trapped In Home
We’ve been seeing a lot of rain around the Tampa Bay area over the last few days.
In a St. Pete Beach neighborhood, residents have dealt with some serious frustrations.
Vincent Tormenia lives in St. Pete Beach. He saw the rising waters on Saturday. He said, “We’re in the heart of hurricane season. It’s very scary to know that this water rises this fast here.” He went on to say, “The water came rushing in. It started filling up the street and we couldn’t get out of our driveways.”
When streets become waterlogged, residents are trapped because their homes essentially turn into islands.
Jade Caswell is another St. Pete resident and she said, “Yesterday I had an appointment. I had go out at 1 p.m., and I couldn’t get my car out.”
“It’s ridiculous, you know, that this is not being taken care of,” Tormenia said, explaining that the water can go as high as his knees at some points. He says the bay needs dredged and it’s not being taken care of.
