I had such a great conversation with author Amy Christine Parker. Her latest novel Flight 171 is available now.
She stopped by to give us a preview of this young adult thriller. And she also shared her list of favorite spooky stories geared towards younger readers.
She recommends Pig the Monster (Aaron Blabey), Creepy Crayon! (Aaron Reynolds), and Creepy Pair of Underwear (Aaron Reynolds) for the youngest readers.
The Greatest Zombie Movie Ever (Jeff Strand), Scritch Scratch (Lindsay Currie), and Camp Scare (Deliah S. Dawson) are her recommendations for middle readers.
And she loves Pretty Dead Queens (Alexa Donne) and Small Town Monsters (Diana Rodriguez Wallach) for high school/young adult readers during this spooky season.
To find out about all her reading recs, her new book, and to find out what it takes to make it as an author, you can listen to our conversation below.
Roxanne’s Halloweens Through The Years
It’s so funny because I just spent some time going back through the last eight years, and each costume photo kind of captures the theme of the year and the vibe in my life at that point in time.
My older daughter is going to be Rose from The Titanic this year. Will be posting pics of her costume soon!
This is a way back in time throwback.

2020
Photo Courtesy of RWWe had a new baby, Davianna, to celebrate the holiday with, but...
2020
Photo Courtesy of RW...was also the year that kicked off Covid, so it was a hodgepodge of a Halloween. We didn't trick-or-treat. Just stood outside and ate candy, and we were pretty low-key with costumes. This is an unidentifiable raggedy princess costume.
2021
Photo Courtesy of RWLast year my older daughter wanted to be Mal from Descendants.
2021
Photo Courtesy of RWAnd that adorable ladybug costume saw the light of day again (or a Halloween night).
2021
Photo Courtesy of RWAnd Davianna loved being a ladybug so much, she napped in her costume for like 2 weeks straight even after Halloween.
