Horrific Injury at Last Night’s Tampa Bay Lightning Game

Let’s start off with the good news. Edmonton Oilers left winger Evander Kane is expected to be ok. But it was a terrifying scene at Amalie Arena last night when blood spilled onto the ice after his wrist was sliced open by a skate.

Let's start off with the good news. Edmonton Oilers left winger Evander Kane is expected to be ok. But it was a terrifying scene at Amalie Arena last night when blood spilled onto the ice after his wrist was sliced open by a skate.

The accident happened early in the second period when Kane was knocked to the ice. The Tampa Bay Lightning's Pat Maroon was skating by and his skate accidentally went over Kane's wrist. Kane quickly put pressure on the wound and sprinted for the locker room to get medical attention, realizing quickly the severity of the cut.

Play stopped and players were visibly shaken by the incident. TV cameras caught the reaction of Edmonton Oilers coach Jay Woodcroft as he cringed and broke down when he watched the replay. Medical staff did all they could at Amalie Arena before he was rushed to the hospital, according to CNN. The Oilers tweeted that Kane is in stable condition and would undergo a procedure. After the game Woodcroft told reporters that the news he'd received was that Kane was in a "good spot." [Source: CNN]

I chose not to include the video of the incident as it's very hard to watch. But it can be seen here.
