Tampa Bay Veteran's Day Celebrations Cancelled Due To Nicole

Due to impacts of Tropical Storm Nicole, some Veteran's Day celebrations around Tampa Bay have cancelled or rescheduled.. Every year on the anniversary of the end of World War 1, we celebrate Veteran's Day. The day where we honor and acknowledge those who served in all wars. Many areas around Tampa Bay had ceremonies and parades, but Nicole had other plans. News Channel 8 reported that the impacts of Tropical Storm Nicole has forced many ceremonies to cancel or reschedule.

Tropical Storm Nicole made landfall as a Category 1 Hurricane early Thursday morning on North Hutchinson Island. By the time the storm reached Tampa Bay, it had downgraded to a tropical storm. However, ABC Action News has reported over 10,000 power outages in Pinellas and Hillsborough.

Here are the Veteran's Day celebrations in Tampa Bay that have been cancelled or rescheduled, so far. We will update this post with more information as it becomes available. 

Hillsborough County:

  • The Veterans Council of Hillsborough County has canceled the 58th annual Veterans Day Tribute scheduled for Friday at Veterans Memorial Park & Rear Admiral LeRoy Collins, Jr. Veterans Museum, located at 3602 U.S. 301 N. in Tampa.
    • County staff and the council hope to reschedule a tribute at a later date.
  • The Ruskin Veterans Day Parade has been canceled due to Tropical Storm Nicole, according to Ruskin Memorial VFW Post 6287.
  • RESCHEDULED: Bay Pines VA has shifted the date for its annual Veterans Day ceremony, the first in-person celebration since 2019. The ceremony will now take place on Nov. 13 from 11 a.m. to noon at the C.W. Bill Young Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center, located at 10000 Bay Pines Blvd, Bay Pines.

Pinellas County:

  • Curlew Hills Memory Gardens, located at 1750 Curlew Rd in Palm Harbor, has canceled its Veterans Day ceremony scheduled for Friday.

There are still more events that are expected to take place around Tampa Bay.

Veteran’s Day Celebrations Happening In Tampa Bay After Nicole

Every year on the anniversary of the end of World War 1, we celebrate Veteran's Day. The day where we honor and acknowledge those who served in all wars. Despite Tropical Storm Nicole making its way through Tampa on Thursday, there are plenty of Veteran's Day celebrations still happening. Tropical Storm Nicole brought over 10,000 power outages to Pinellas and Hillsborough county, according to ABC Action News. But that hopefully won't stop these Veteran's Day activities planned around Tampa Bay.

Veterans Day - Cookout

Stop by the Harley Davidson in Tampa (6920 N. Dale Mabry Hwy Tampa, FL) for their annual Veterans Day Cookout. We will be serving Free Hot Dogs, Hamburgers and refreshments to all our Veteran guests and their families from 12p-2p.

Veterans Day Ceremony - Safety Harbor

The City of Safety Harbor, American Legion Post 238, and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 10093 will present a salute to all of those brave men and women who have served and are now serving our country. This is a free event from 11a-12p. Located at Veterans Memorial Park 110 Veterans Memorial Lane, Safety Harbor, FL 34695.

Red, White & Brew VETERANS DAY CONCERT

Downtown Palm Harbor will be hosting its first large concert event in years! U2.0 will be the main performance from 5p-10p! Come honor our Veterans on November 11 with a great community building event. See more info on the event's Facebook page, here. 

Veterans Memorial - St Pete

Mayor Ken Welch and St Pete honor veterans and also present the Honored Veteran Award to one or more outstanding local veterans. The event will be streamed live at facebook.com/StPeteFL. Free. 8 a.m. Friday. Williams Park, 350 Second Ave. N, St. Petersburg

Veterans Day Beach Yoga - Madeira Beach

One of the most relaxing ways to celebrate, yoga on the beach! Free session for Veterans and active duty military on the beach on the Gulf. Pre-registration, pre-payment, and signed waiver through your Mind Body profile are required prior to arrival in class. No walk-up, unregistered students may join us for class. Veterans indicate on the registration form for the free session. Free (veterans), $15 (others). 9-10 a.m. Friday. Archibald Park, 15100 Gulf Blvd., Madeira Beach.

Make sure to bring a towel and water to stay hydrated!

Veterans Day Picnic - Tampa

Lunch with games for family and kids after a nice service program on the history of Veterans Day. Free. 11 a.m. Friday. VFW Post 4321, 2010 W Morrison Ave., Tampa. 813-374-2490.
