SAN FRANCISCO, CA - JULY 22: Bottles of Mountain Dew are displayed in a cooler at Marina Supermarket on July 22, 2014 in San Francisco, California. The San Francisco Board of Supervisors will vote on Tuesday to place a measure on the November ballot for a 2-cents-per-ounce soda tax. If the measure passes in the November election, tax proceeds would help finance nutrition, health, disease prevention and recreation programs. (Photo by Justin Sullivan/Getty Images)

There are a few competitions as heated as the battle between big soda brands. The rivalry between Coca-Cola and Pepsi has been legendary. It has produced some of the greatest advertising campaigns and Super Bowl commercials of all time.

But the battle has gone far beyond the top two flavors. Look at the vicious competition between Mountain Dew and Mello Yello. Or the long running three-way battle between top root beer brands, Barq.s , Dad’s and A&W.

And while Coca-Cola and Pepsi will always be the biggest battle, I think few people will disagree that the number two battle is in the lemon lime soda realm. Coca-Cola‘s Sprite and PepsiCo’s Sierra Mist have been battling each other in the marketplace for 24 years. Well, PepsiCo is making a big change, they are dropping Sierra Mist and they are watching a new lemon lime flavor, called Starry.

Starry will be launched in the next week and you’ll soon see it in all major retailers and convenient stores around the country. Sierra Mist just hasn’t made the impact against Sprite that PepsiCo had hoped. So they are revamping the entire flavor with a hot new name and new packaging. Starry will be caffeine free and available in two types, Regular and Zero Sugar.

In a statement from PepsiCo, they said “demand for lemon lime flavored soda has never been greater,”.

A Pepsi spokesperson told CNN that Starry has a “higher citrus flavors that are true to fruit and more aromatic” compared to Sierra Mist.

So, are you excited to try it?
