Although students at University of Tampa have been advised not to use the TikTok app, the students are not always following that advice.
Our friends at News Channel 8 have more on this story and talked with folks from UT.
Though the students received an email on Thursday encouraging them to delete the app, the instructions aren’t being followed.
Alyssa Chesney is a TikTok user. She said, “Safety isn’t necessarily my number one priority when using social media. If that was it, I probably wouldn’t even own an iPhone.”
Another student named Jake Brunet said, “Nah, I would keep it.”
News Channel 8’s Nicole Rogers corresponded with Application Security Consultant Charlton Trezevant to find out why the app poses such deleterious effects.
Trezevant explained it by saying, “It’s not a new discussion really as far as are we comfortable fundamentally with that type of data collection and processing, it’s really more, who are we comfortable allowing to do that.”
