It's Valentines Day and most of us love our airport in Tampa. Compared to other big cities, getting in and out at Tampa International Airport is a breeze. If you Uber to the airport, this won't bug you much. But if you park when you fly, you're about to see a couple price increases for parking.
First the good news - hourly rates are staying the same, according to the Tampa Bay Times. But they say overnight parking in the economy lot is about to become less economical. The price for 24 hours of parking will jump from $12 to $14 starting April 4, 2023. Parking just went up from $10 to $12 a year or so ago. And that's not it. ANOTHER price hike to $18 a day is coming once some construction projects are finished next year, according to the article.
One way to get around the price hikes is to book your parking in advance online. That will save you a couple bucks a day. You can book up to a year in advance. [Source: Tampa Bay Times]
Holiday travel season is here. Which airports have the most cancellations? Flight Aware and Fox Weather analyzed data for travel between the months of December through February. These are the 10 airports with the most impacted flights during winter.
Guess who didn't make the list? Tampa! We love our airport. It's easy to navigate. Lines aren't too bad. There are some good places to eat. And best of all, it's rare to see a flight take off late or get cancelled. But one Florida airport DID make the top 10... or I guess bottom 10.
#10: Orlando International Airport
Ahhh Florida just barely makes the list. With all the Mickey Mouse visitors and flights to the north, this kind of makes sense even though winters here are a breeze weatherwise.
#9: Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport
Does anything in Washington ever go well? Why should travel? Washington always has really bad traffic too. One of my least favorite cities to visit.
#8: LaGuardia Airport
New York City, lots of people, lots of congestion... understandable.
#7: Seattle-Tacoma International Airport
A bit surprising to me given the lack of really bad weather.
#6: Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport
Lots of wintery weather from the lakes... makes sense.
#5: Boston Logan International Airport
I fly to Logan often when I go to visit family in Maine. I haven't had too many problems. Security lines can get long. But I've found most flights are delayed but not cancelled. Since Boston is right on the water, they get more rain than snow in the winter months - even if the snow is flying 30 minutes inland.
#4: JFK International Airport
The big city airports naturally have the same issue... lots of people. Lots of flights. Lots of delays. So the NYC airports making this list is no surprise since they have congestion and bad weather in the winter months.
#3: O'Hare International Airport
Chicago's enormous airport means congestion. And winter weather in Chicago is no joke. You get the wind and the blizzards.
#2: Denver International Airport
Not a huge city, but lots of wintry weather.
#1: Newark Liberty International Airport
No surprise here. My least favorite airport anywhere. I NEVER connect through Newark. If I'm flying in to NYC, it's a viable option, but if this is a connection, avoid avoid avoid. The layout of the airport is frustrating and inconvenient. And the delays are a given. One time I got stuck having to spend the night... and there was NOWHERE to get any rest without bright lights or loud noises. A nightmare.
