Tampa’s Big Cat Rescue Prepares To Close
Big Cat Rescue’s Carole Baskin is making some big changes.
The famous sanctuary just outside of Tampa will be moving its residents. Big Cat Rescue merged with a sanctuary in Arkansas. 35 of the cats from Tampa are going to Turpentine Creek.
Carole Baskin praised the passage of new laws restricting private ownership of big cats. Therefore, the number of the animals that need rescuing has dwindled. As much as that is a positive result, with fewer cats to be saved, the best course financially is to consolidate with another organization. This would allow the continued care for these cats.
In a release on BigCatRescue.org, Carole’s husband Harold wrote of this being a “win-win” for both Big Cat Rescue and Turpentine Creek Wildlife Refuge.
Plans are to move all of the cats from the Tampa sanctuary. At that point, the Baskins plan to sell the off its 67 acres near Citrus Park Dr. and the Veterans Expressway.
