Luxury Logos Could Become A Thing Of The Past
Until quite recently, sightseeing in the world’s major cities meant more than visiting historic and cultural sites; it also meant seeing luxury logos everywhere you looked – brick and mortar stores, plus shoes and boots on feet, purses on arms, and coats on shoulders.
The trend peaked during the pandemic, when typical jetsetters were on lockdown, so they spent their money on luxuriously logoed apparel, instead. That’s why luxury houses like Cartier and Hermes saw record-breaking sales at the height of the pandemic.
Now, fashion experts say the trend is shifting, and our demand for logos is fading, at least for now. If you go back to the dot.com boom thirty years ago, and follow it from there, its pretty clear that the logo craze kicks up in boom times, and fades from the spotlight when financial times are a bit leaner, like they are now for many people.
Experts say that with the economic uncertainty of a possible recession looming, luxury buying will be down, and so will the number of logos paraded on the streets of busy city centers.
So, the heat is off. If you don’t have a $4,000 Hermes bag yet, no worries.
