Legendary Tampa Restaurant Is Up For Sale
The Tampa Bay Area has a surprising amount of restaurants that have been serving people for 30, 40 or 50 years. Now one of the more legendary ones are up for sale. Mel’s Hot Dog’s is on the market! According to FOX 13 this your chance to buy a Tampa Institution.
Mel’s Hot Dogs opened on Busch Boulevard on July of 1973 and they’ve been slinging hot dogs ever since. It’s been almost 50 years and now is the right time to sell.
But your thinking about putting in an offer, better make sure you’re ready to step into a Tampa institution. The real estate group handling the sale has not disclosed the price, but Bay Street Commercial Real Estate said they are searching for a “qualified and conscientious” buyer “to carry on a very special legacy.” So if your the one who buys it, you better to not may any changes and essentially be an owner operator.
Founder Mel Loan is 76 years old and looks forward to spending more time golfing and less time playing with his Wieners. Mel said, “I wouldn’t sell it to someone who’s going to change it,”
The problem for the next buyer is that although they will have all the tools, they won’t have Mel himself. He is a big part of the uniqueness of Mel’s Hot Dogs and he will be sorely missed. Some of Mel’s more famous Hot Dogs are the Mel’s Special with mustard, onions, sauerkraut, relish & pickle.
