Let’s face it, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have lived a charmed life for the last three seasons. With one Super Bowl win, three consecutive playoff appearances, the Buccaneers were amongst the most elite teams in the NFL.  A lot of the success can be attributed to the signing of Tom Brady in 2020. Tom Brady‘s backup quarterback during his three year tenure in Tampa Bay with Blaine Gabbert. Gabbart is one of the most experienced back ups in the league and his time spent as the back up to Brady has made him a wealth of knowledge and a hot commodity this off-season.

Blaine Gabbert has now signed with the Kansas City Chiefs according to the USAToday’s Chiefs Wire Page,  Kansas City QB Patrick Mahomes is using the opportunity to play with Gabbert as a time to pick his brain and get as much of Tom Brady’s knowledge as he can.   While playing for the Bucs, Gabbert played in 11 games in four seasons with the team. however, Patrick Mahomes thinks that the fact he was the understudy to Brady, he will be very useful for the Chiefs and to his own continuing education.

Speaking of Gabbert, Mahomes says, “Since he’s been in the building, he’s been a true pro and he’s came in – you see the talent, you see why he was a top 10 draft pick and a first-round draft pick and the arm strength there and things like that. And he was just backing up  Tom (Brady) so I’m asking for any advice he can give me because if you’re learning from that guy, you’re learning from the right guy.”

Ironically Gabbert was on the Buccanners Championship Team that beat Mahomnes’ Chiefs in Super Bowl LV.  Mahomes has led the Chiefs to the Super Bowl two other times and won both of those.

Gabbert’s career as an NFL quarterback, has really been one of a journeyman. After he was drafted by the Jacksonville Jaguars. He went on to play for the San Francisco 49ers, the Arizona Cardinals, and the Tennessee Titans. In 2019, he signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and in 2020 Tom Brady came along. Playing for the Kansas City Chiefs will be a homecoming of sorts for Gabbert. He was born in Ballwin Missouri, which is a western suburb of St. Louis. Gabbert also played college football for the University of Missouri Tigers.

Through his years of experience, he’s proven himself as a very capable back up, and somebody that Patrick Mahomes can use as a valuable resource for this season, and possibly several more moving forward.
