Florida County Has Extremely High Alzheimer’s Disease Numbers
If someone in your family as Alzheimer’s disease, then you understand that it can be a very difficult disease. It’s hard on the person with the disease and their loved ones. According to new research announced this week at the Alzheimer’s Association International Conference (AAIC) in Amsterdam (via Fox News), seniors living in the eastern and southeastern parts of the United States have the biggest percentage of people with Alzheimer’s disease. One Florida county has the most Alzheimer’s disease patients in the nation.
“It’s important for us to know where the prevalences are going to be highest, so that we know how to direct resources and educational opportunities for people,” Dr. Percy Griffin, the director of scientific engagement for the Alzheimer’s Association in Chicago, Illinois, told Fox News Digital.
The research looked at all 3,142 U.S. counties. The study was the very first “county-level estimate of the most common form of dementia among older Americans,” according to Fox News. On top of the presentation at AAIC, the findings were also published in Alzheimer’s & Dementia: The Journal of the Alzheimer’s Association.

Which Florida county has among the most Alzheimer’s disease patients in the U.S.? It’s Miami-Dade County, with a 16.6% prevalence. That county is actually tied with Baltimore City and Bronx County for the No. 1 spot.
