A Great White Shark is attracted by a lure on the ‘Shark Lady Adventure Tour’ in Gansbaai, South Africa. The lure, usually a tuna head, is attached to a buoy and thrown into the water in front of the cage with the divers. The waters off Gansbaai are the best place in the world to see Great White Sharks, due to the abundance of prey such as seals and penguins which live and breed on Dyer Island, which lies 8km from the mainland.
(Photo by Dan Kitwood/Getty Images)If you thought the movie Cocaine Bear was a crazy premise, wait until you get a load of this one. During the Discovery Channel's, upcoming Shark Week, they will have a special show, titled Cocaine Sharks. It will Air Wednesday July, 26th at 10p.m. As crazy as that initially sounds, the idea behind it may not be that off.
Let’s face it, the Florida coast is notorious for two things. First, drug runners, second, sharks. We’ve all heard stories of the drug runners and eluding authorities and then dumping drugs into the ocean. We’ve seen news stories of people just going for a leisurely stroll along the Atlantic Ocean and they stumble upon an enormous bundle of cocaine.
Is it out of the question to think that sharks could see a floating brick of cocaine and bite into it, innocently, thinking that it’s food? If you didn't know, and before this, I didn't, cocaine is very soluble, which means it easily mixes with water. So if a torn package of drugs were in the ocean, it could contaminate a large area around the package. Any shark, just would get a heck of a high simply by just passing by.
Either way, I personally am torn. Because this sounds very ridiculous and very plausible all at the same time. But one thing I can tell you for sure I will definitely be tuning in to the Discovery Channel's Shark Week and the special show Cocaine Sharks.
