Kelly Ripa has experienced two majorly awkward situations in her family. The Live! with Kelly and Mark host is recalling an awkward moment she had with her daughter.
In a recent interview, the mom of three revealed that her daughter Lola, 22, has walked in on her parents having sex — twice. Ripa, 52, has been married to actor Mark Consuelos, also 52, since 1996.
What makes matters worse, Ripa says both instances happened on Lola’s birthday, which is June 16. The first time occurred during a family vacation to Italy when Lola was eight. The talk show host said she and Mark had not “had a lot of alone time” during the trip and had thought it was “now or never” after their kids went to sleep. “I encouraged him to lock…[the] door, and he tells me he did,” Ripa said. “All I know is, at a certain point, I made eye contact with my 8-year-old daughter, who is standing at the foot of the bed.”
A Cringe Deja Vu
When Lola told her mom she’d come into the room because she was thirsty, Consuelos left the room. Eight years later, a case of deja vu happened on her daughter’s 16th birthday. Kelly shared, “The same thing happened eight years later on her 16th birthday. “Same exact thing. She threw the door open.” Teenage Lola had more of a reaction this time. “‘Oh my god, life is over,'” Ripa recalled Lola saying at the time. “‘I used to see in color, and now everything is gray. How could you do this to me? What is wrong with you people?'” The moral of the story, as best told by Ripa, is: “She never learned to knock. Hopefully, by the time she turns 24, we’ll be done having sex.”
Ripa also shares sons Michael, 26, and Joaquin, 20, with Consuelos.
