Many pop culture trends are influencing parents' decisions when it comes to choosing a name for their bundle of joy. Music, movies, TV are giving parents inspiration for their baby's name. Keep reading to find out which trends are influencing parents-to-be.
We found these naming trends on babycenter.com. They created a list of the most popular baby names for 2023 and pop culture sensations that are inspiring parents this year. They found this info by analyzing the top rising and falling names from data submitted by BabyCenter parents. This data includes the names of more than 300,000 babies born in 2023. These are the trends influencing baby names in 2023
Barbenheimer
The box office is making big decisions in the delivery room. The Barbenheimer trend has caused some names to climb through the ranks, and others to fall. You may notice Barbie's full name Barbra on a lot of baby announcements soon. The name Barba is up a whopping 994 spots, to No. 1,336. Other names influenced by the film Barbie are rising through the ranks as well. Greta (Gerwig, the movie’s director), is up 314 spots, to No. 964 and Margot (as in Margot Robbie) is up 66 spots to number 222. The opposite effect happened with names associated with Oppenheimer. The names Robert, Katherine, Christopher, and Cillian have all dropped more than 10 spots down the list.
Music & Concerts
Parent's favorite musicians are known to make an impact on baby names over the year. While we can't stop reading about Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce, it looks like the baby names Taylor and Travis have been unaffected in this study. But Swiftie moms are naming their babies inspired by their favorite eras. Betty (from Folklore) is up 184 spots, to No. 920. The name Marjorie (from Evermore) is also up 1,626 spots. Summer (from Taylor's hit song in her Lovers era, Cruel Summer) is up 66 spots and Ivy (from Evermore) is up to number 28! Taylor isn't the only one inspiring future mommies and daddies. The names Rihanna are also trending and Sasha (from Beyoncé's Sasha Fierce) is also up multiple spots.
Sports Docu-series
We've tuned into a lot of sports docu-series this year and it's inspired others in the delivery room! Babycenter.com says that after the release of the docuseries Beckham this October, the name Beckham is up four spots, to No. 221; David is up eight spots, to No. 36; and Victoria is up six spots, to No. 51. Another soccer player that influencing a lot of parents is Lionel Messi. The documentary Messi Meets America inspired the name Lionel to jump 283 spots on the list. Netflix's Formula 1: Drive to Survive has helped F1 grow in popularity in the U.S. and with these baby names: Max (as in Max Verstappen) is up 15 spots, and Fernando (Alonso) is up 199 spots.

Olivia takes the #1 spot for most popular girl names in Florida. Names.org says that 1,149 girls born in Florida in 2021 were named Olivia.
