There’s always something going down at Walmart. You’ll see customers arguing with other customers or customers yelling at employees, but this time was different. A Flagler County man walked out of Walmart with a cash register. That might be one of the wildest Walmart shoplifting stories we’ve heard yet.
According to the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office, the man went over to the general merchandise side of the Walmart store and took the cash box. The suspect was caught on camera leaving the store with the register box under his arm, according to deputies.
The suspect has not yet been caught by the Flagler County Sheriff’s department. He is described as bald or balding with a beard. At the time of the crime the man was wearing a red shirt.
A Tweet from the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office says, “The Flagler County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s help to identify this subject wanted for stealing a cash register from Walmart on December 10, 2023, at approximately 8:25pm. If you recognize this individual, please contact us!”
If you or anyone you know has information on the whereabouts of man who walked out of Walmart with a cash register, you can email the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office at TIPS@flaglersheriff.com or call Crimestoppers at 888-277-TIPS.
How does Walmart handle shoplifting in 2023?
Over the past few years shoplifting has become a big problem in major department stores. Big stores like Walmart, Target and Walgreens have said that organized retail crime (ORC) has been a “massive issue”.
The National Retail Federation says, “ORC typically involves a criminal enterprise employing a group of individuals who steal large quantities of merchandise from a number of stores and a fencing operation that converts the stolen goods into cash.”
Walmart has taken to old school mythos to catch these shoplifters in 2023. They have ‘loss prevention officers’ within every store that everyone on the floors of the store via cameras. These loss prevention officers are allowed to detain you until Police arrive (at the store) if you are caught shoplifting.
With the rise of self checkout lanes, Walmart has also taken precautions in these areas. In the Atlanta store, there is a police station attached to the Walmart and in select locations the self checkout lanes are shut down. This gives managers a chance to check for theft.
There are so many different stores to choose from when it comes to shopping for groceries and general household items. Some people are diehard Publix or Target fans, but what about Walmart? Walmart comes in all shapes and sizes. You can find one almost anywhere, at any time and usually it will be open whenever you need it. That’s exactly what makes Walmart … Walmart. We asked you on social media to help us find the top Walmarts in Tampa Bay and you didn’t disappoint.
What’s Walmart like?
Walmart is my go to place for grocery shopping. They have everything you need at a low price and you’re not going to be paying $30 for 4 rolls of toilet paper. The low prices mixed with the late store hours make it a prime place to shop for almost anything. On the other hand, the low prices, late store hours, and size of the store are also what make it a trifecta blend of wild behavior … if you choose the wrong location.
Back in 2015, Port Richey’s Walmart was the hub of crime in the city. Nearly half of the crime taking place in Port Richey was at the local Walmart. Did they have low prices? Absolutely, but price cuts probably weren’t the only cuts you’d be leaving with.
