5 Great Freestyle Explosion Slow Jams
When Freestyle Explosion Throwback Jam returns to Amalie Arena in Tampa this August, you know you’ll spend very little time in your seat. With so many great dance hits from the freestyle legends, it’ll feel like Amalie Arena is one big dance club. But don’t forget – many of these artists had love songs to slow it down to as well. Here are 5 great slow jams from back in the day to look forward to August 10, 2024.
Stevie B “Because I Love You”
Oh sure, we love “Spring Love” and all of Stevie’s club classics from the ’80s. But don’t forget this #1 from the ’90s! It was one of the first songs I got to play when I got on the radio in 1990. Be ready to sing along with Stevie on this one. He loves to hear the lyrics coming back to the stage when he performs “Because I Love You.”
Will To Power “Baby I Love Your Way”
This 1988 cover of Peter Frampton’s classic hit #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 charts. Oddly enough it only got to #12 for Peter Frampton! Lynyrd Skynyrd’s “Freebird” also gets some time in this song. Many forget Will To Power had another cover that charted back then. Their version of “I’m Not In Love” (the 1975 hit for 10cc) reached the top 10 in 1991.
Lisa Lisa “All Cried Out”
Oh sure we love Head to Toe and I Wonder If I Take You Home, but Lisa’s gut-wrenching ballad at this year’s Freestyle Explosion
concert will take you back to your first heartbreak.
Expose “I’ll Never Get Over You Getting Over Me”
When you combine a song written by the legendary Diane Warren and the vocals of the ladies from Expose, you’re going to have a huge hit. This one from 1992 features the same saxophonist who played on their other big slow jam “Seasons Change,” Euge Groove. Those beach scenes in the music video were not filmed in Florida… they should’ve been though. (They were filmed at the Santa Monica Pier in California.)
Sweet Sensation “If Wishes Came True”
Sweet Sensation is another one of those groups known for their uptempo club classics. “Hooked On You,” “Love Child,” “Take It While It’s Hot” and “Never Let You Go” were club anthems back in the day. And they’ll certainly perform them at Freestyle Explosion. But this track really shows off their other side and great vocals.
